Toulouse is the fourth French city to join the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS-Index). The city now forms part of the global destination sustainability movement that seeks to engage, inspire and enable urban centres to become more regenerative places to visit, meet and thrive in. Toulouse CVB wishes to use the GDS-Index to map and recognise the many actions of its business tourism partners in terms of sustainable development. The city’s prioritization of sustainability for business tourism is increasingly evident. The opening of the new LEED certified MEETT Convention Centre (end of 2020), demonstrates the commitment of the city’s partners to continually improve their sustainability policies. At the same time, it addresses the needs of local event organizers who are demanding eco-responsible solutions, for clients considering Toulouse as a host city for their Congresses and Conventions.

As part of the construction of the Exhibition Park and Convention & Congress Center (MEETT), it was decided to install rooftop solar panel. The proposed project will consist of 10,700 solar panels and will produce the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 3,600 people at a power output of 5 MWc and an annual output of 6,500 MWhA strong commitment to sustainable development HQE certified, with an approach that aims to minimise both the short and long term environmental impact of its buildings, it is also LEED© NC labelled. This commitment to reduce its environmental impact extends to the area in the vicinity of the project: reducing light pollution, alternative travel solutions, landscaping features that use water more efficiently, intelligent waste management, recycling of materials, etc.

The city’s sustainable spirit is also evident in how you move through it: Toulouse’s call definitely lies in its walkability while major attractions can easily be reached by foot or public transport. The airport is also a short 20-minute drive from the centre – with Paris only one hour away – and once there, it is possible to walk or cycle with hundreds of kilometers of on and off-road bike paths. There are over 13500 hotel rooms in Toulouse, within easy walking distance from congress center of each other.
